Synopsis
After the second world war, Blue returns to Australia and his girlfriend Mary. As they plan to marry, Blue is excited to quickly get a well paying job. But there are many taxes and inflation, so the money doesn't go far. Blue and Mary are cramped in their family home and can't afford their own house. Harold Marston tries to tempt Blue and Mary into the profits of the black market, while union strikes interfere with Blue's work. Old mate Johnno explains the problem to Blue and readerss are encoraged to vote the right way to avoid "an era of ever-rising prices, black-market, industrial chaos, and lack of the ordinary necessities of life".
